         Spiderman Tree Service 908-255-6376
"Specializing in dangerous removals and saving damaged trees"

About the Owner

Joe "Spiderman" Hood is a classic type of tree guy: warm and hospitable, and with a history worthy of a biography.
At 18 he joined the army and within 3 years, he was trained and sent to Central America as a member of Army Special Forces.
In 1992 Joe was honorably discharged as a 7 year veteran of the Armed Forces.  He started working for a friend's tree service in Texas, where he learned the skill of tree climbing.  Using his army discipline and athletic instincts, in a few years Joe proved his reputation for an ability to climb and takedown dangerous and inaccesible trees.  Soon larger companes were hiring him to work on their electrical line clearance projects after major ice storms.  Ice storms are more common in the Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana region, and Joe has worked dozens of them.  There was FEMA-sponsored work, emergency rooftop removals, and "historic tree" pruning.  There were also Hurricanes Ivan, Katrina and Ike.  Joe got to work on thousands of trees around the country.   Meanwhile, in 2002 he moved to Kansas City, Missouri and began working independently.
Joe had realized, as much as he enjoys the government project work, he thrives on the residential work.  Whether it's conversation with a customer, thrilling children as he swings from tree to tree, or working with elderly customers who are in need of affordable service, Joe gets a kick from helping others.  While living in Kansas City, in 2003, Joe was named the "dangerous removal expert" in Johnson County, and began hosting a monthly event to train municipal tree climbers.  The reason that he was appointed to this position was because he had climbed a historic tree that was leaning that 41 climbers had turned down.  It was 7 foot diameter, and weighed over 100,000 lbs.

In 22 years Joe has seen all kinds of damage and disease.                         Before Photo
After removing so many trees, it starts to wear on you when you see a a beautiful shade tree that must be removed.  There are situations where timed pruning or pesticide treatment would have made the tree healthy enough  to survive a storm.  Joe is dedicated to saving trees whenever possible.   After a storm, it is critical to prune the damaged tree properly, giving it the best chance for survival, and the most asthetic growth pattern for the future.  Joe continues his education on tree science by attending industry conferences and subscribing to publications by ISA (International Society of Arborists) and TCIA (Tree Care Industry Association)

Founding
Spiderman Tree Service was born out of a need for a honest tree advice and expertise.  Many damaged trees following storms need to be pruned correctly in order to survive.  Following Hurricanes Irene and Sandy, homeowners were getting bad advice, and trees were getting 'topped' and hacked apart by fly-by-night companies.  Recently Joe partnered with a local business owner, Sara, to open Spiderman Tree Service in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.   Joe and Sara look to grow Spiderman Tree Service with their community and to build a reputation as a team that their customers can rely on.
